Thanks for your interest in the Merit Badge Introduction Workshop!

  • What is the Merit Badge Introduction Workshop (MBIWS)? A three-Saturday event offering 57 classes covering 30 different merit badges from 8:00 am-12:15 pm on November 6, November 13, and December 11, 2021.  Most classes will be virtual, some will be offered in-person at two different venues.
      • Registration opens Monday, September 30th at 9:00 AM.
      • November 6th – registration closes on October 24th
      • November 13th – registration closes on October 31st
      • December 11th – registration closes on November 28th
  • What is the purpose of the Merit Badge Introduction Workshop? The purpose of the workshop is to introduce Scouts to individual badges (listed below) and qualified counselors, to give the Scouts an understanding of the requirements, and to to motivate and encourage them to complete the work necessary to earn the badge.
  • What merit badges will be offered at the MBIWS? Scroll to the bottom of this page for a list of merit badges.   You can download a complete schedule from the registration page.
  • Will Scouts be earning entire merit badges during the workshop?  Counselors have the goal of completing a few requirements appropriate for a brief online course. Scouts will be able to obtain a “partial,” recorded in their Scoutbook account, but typically will not be able to complete the merit badge at this event.
  • How will Scouts complete the remaining requirements? All the supporting faculty will be available in the days following the Workshop to provide follow-up support for Scouts to complete their badge(s). If a counselor is unavailable when needed or has a conflict, the MBIWS staff will help the Scout connect with an available registered counselor.
  • How will advancement be recorded? Once registered, Scouts should ask their unit leader (Scoutmaster) to connect the Scout’s Scoutbook account with the Counselor running their class(es) for the specific merit badge.  (See the MBIWS Technology page if you have questions about Scoutbook.)  All the faculty for the event are qualified, registered PPC counselors with Scoutbook accounts.  Following the Workshop, they will mark any requirements completed.  This information is then immediately visible from the Scout’s, parent’s, and unit leader’s Scoutbook accounts.
  • Is there anything parents can do to help? Sure!  See the Parent Monitor page to learn how parents can volunteer to help during the workshop.  And review the Parent orientation page to make sure you and your Scout are prepared.
  • What online platform will be used for the Workshop? Google Meets. (See the MBIWS Technology page if you have questions about Google Meets.)
