Cub Scout Camping

Patriots’ Path Council is proud to offer a multitude of summer camp options for boys and girls. Whether you’re looking for day camp, evening camp, or overnight camp we have an awesome adventure for your child! Our day and evening camps are open to ALL boys and girls grades 2 – 5. Tigers are welcome to join with a legal guardian.

Day camps run for six weeks from July 2 through August 10 and offer outstanding activities for a full day of fun, learning, safety, and adventure. Our campers are divided by gender into small, well-supervised groups. Our boys are grouped in Cub dens and the girls are grouped in Wildflower dens. Free busing is provided to Camp Wheeler (Stanhope, NJ) and Watchung Cub Scout Day Camp (Mountainside, NJ) from many locations in the surrounding counties.

We also offer Webelos Resident Camp – an overnight camp for Cub Scouts entering grades 4 or 5 in the fall with their parents or adult leaders. Join us for one or both of our 4 day/3 night sessions. The dates are Sun 8/5 to Wed 8/8 and Wed 8/8 to Sat 8/11. Camp begins early afternoon on the first day and ends in the morning of the last day. Special Wednesday activities are available for those staying for the full week.

Located on the 1,000-acre Mount Allamuchy Scout Reservation in Stanhope, N.J., Camp Wheeler has been operating for more than 40 years. Camp operates Monday through Friday during July and August, from 8:45 A.M. – 4:15 P.M.

Come for one or more weeks! We offer an action-packed day with lots of fun — and some learning too. Our nationally accredited staff is youth protection trained and includes many teachers and college students majoring in education. We maintain a staff to youth ratio of 1:5 or better.

Bus transportation is provided from more than 45 locations throughout Morris, Sussex and northwest Somerset counties.

All Cub Scouts, Webelos, Wildfowlers, and families are invited to attend our campfire Thursday evening at 6:45 pm at Camp Wheeler. We encourage families to come watch their campers perform in their den skits, join in songs and cheers. Awards such as who caught the biggest fish, who moved up an ability group, and lastly which den is the best den of the week is given out at the campfire.

Campers will go home as usual and return to Camp Wheeler at 6:45 pm with their families. If parents would like to pick up their camper on Thursday evening instead, there are some local eateries in the area. The campfire ends between 8:00 and 8:30 pm.

If canceled due to the weather, the campfire will be held on Friday afternoon at 2:45 pm at our campfire ring. Families are still encouraged to attend!!!

We have benches with backs at the campfire ring. You may want to bring flashlights, blankets, and non-aerosol bug repellent for your comfort.

Specialty Nights at Camp Wheeler

Specialty Nights at Camp Wheeler in Stanhope, NJ is an evening program running on Wednesday evenings from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

 Each week, Specialty Nights at Camp Wheeler will feature a different activity for participants to experience. These programs are open to all boys and girls and a parent who are interested in that evening’s programs. Activities include aquatics, shooting sports, and nature

Pre-registration is not required but is recommended. $5 per youth participant, accompanying adults are included.

August 6 – 10, 2018 at Camp Wheeler focuses on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). All of Camp Wheeler’s great programs will incorporate STEM activities in a fun and interactive way. We will even have a few special programs too!

  • Model Rockets – Forces, aerodynamics, propulsion, and physics.
  • Radio Controlled Vehicles – Mechanics and electronics.
  • Crafts – Mathematics behind bubble blowing.
  • Science – Make a motor and a circuit to illuminate a light bulb.
  • Pool – Chemistry – how water is so fascinating.
  • Archeology – Learning about volcanoes and the Earth.
  • BB Guns/Archery – Physics of projectiles; probability of hitting target areas.
  • Boating – Including trebuchets and catapults.
  • Mountain Bikes – Playing around with simple machines.
  • Scoutcraft – Engineering of structures.
  • Nova Awards – Work on the four Cub Scout Nova awards.

Watchung Cub Scout Day Camp is nestled in the scenic 1,945-acre Watchung Reservation in Mountainside, NJ and has been providing a high-quality camp program for more than 35 years.

Watchung Cub Scout Day Camp offers a nationally accredited camp staff with a counselor to boy ratio of 1:4 and a trained Medical Officer on site.

Camp operates Monday to Friday from July 2 through August 10, 2018. Programs run daily from 8:45 am to 4:00 pm. We offer action-packed days with lots of fun and learning.

Bus transportation is provided from locations throughout Union, Somerset, SE Morris, Essex, and Middlesex counties.

The trading post will be open for the duration of the campfire.  Hershey’s novelty ice cream and other non-candy snacks will be available for purchase. Campers will go home as usual and return to Watchung Cub Scout Day Camp at 7:00 pm with their families. If canceled due to the weather, families are welcome to attend the following week.

Bring flashlights, chairs, or blankets and non-aerosol bug repellent for your comfort. Please park in the Trailside Nature & Science Center lot and take a short walk down to the Watchung campfire ring. Please note that cars are not allowed to drive into camp.

For a nominal fee, campers may be dropped off between 7:30 and 8:00 am and/or picked up between 4:30 and 6:00 pm.

Every Friday, Cubs will be given a rank sheet listing the requirements completed during their week at camp. Please look for them. If your camper does not come home with the information, or they are absent on Friday, please call the camp the following week to have one sent home.  Please do not wait until camp is over. Webelos Resident Camp is an overnight camp for Cub Scouts entering grades 4 or 5 in September – and their parents or adult leaders. Join us for one or both of our 4 day/3 night sessions. The dates are Sun 8/5 to Wed 8/8 and Wed 8/8 to Sat 8/11. Camp begins early afternoon on the first day and ends in the morning of the last day. The staff always puts on an incredible program! Special Wednesday activities are available for those staying for the full week.


During your stay at camp, have fun with BB guns, archery, waterfront activities (swimming, boating, and fishing), handicrafts, Scoutcraft, ecology, sports, games, water trampoline, Mager Mountain, batting cage, hikes and more. We even have a few special programs for the adults, including a ride on our dual 1,000-foot zip lines over Durham Pond.

The program has been designed to capture the interest of 9- and 10-year-old Scouts. Program goals are to give each Scout an opportunity to work on Webelos and Arrow of Light advancement, to learn more about the world we live in, and to develop a greater appreciation for the outdoors.

Webelos Resident Camp provides a natural bridge from Cub Scouting to the many activities in Boy Scouting. The Scouts and adults sleep on canvas cots in wall tents on platforms. Everyone will enjoy great food in our dining hall. The camp also features flush toilets and a shower house. Your evenings are spent around the campfire with songs and skits.

Webelos Resident Camp is a great opportunity for scouts to work on Webelos and Arrow of Light advancement!

Upcoming Webelos can attend camp with

  • their den*
  • as an individual with a parent
  • as an individual with no adult: these Scouts are grouped together in our provisional packs, and Patriots’ Path Council provides trained adults to meet BSA’s leadership* requirement

* Adult leadership is required for all participants. Parents can come with their own Scouts. Or, you must have two adult den/pack leaders for the first eight Webelos and one more leader for every eight additional Webelos. The camp can also provide adult leadership.

  • $175 per scout* if paid in full before 4/22/2018
  • $205 per scout* if paid in full after 4/22/2018
  • $110 per adult leader or parent

* Adult leadership is required for all participants. Parents can come with their own Scouts. Or, you must have two adult den/pack leaders for the first eight Webelos and one more leader for every eight additional Webelos. The camp can also provide adult leadership.

  • $120 additionally per scout attending without leader or parent supervision
